Did you really need to see them climbing sloppily in and out of Tommy's jalopy between bars to figure out that they had skipped that part?  It's called a jump cut.

yeah i mean that's the idea, but every time i've watched the movie with anyone, they all kind of go "wait...canada? they're in canada now, right?" it's not incomprehensible but it's kind of sloppy

It sure is.  But a good jump cut has a more clearly implied action in the scene before (ie. someone saying Let's take this party to that bar over the border") would have sufficed.  (Yes, I got an A in Screenwriting.)

p.s. J, I'm on here a lot, but I'm not a fucking nerd over it.  I suck at TP trivia, believe it or not.

But you'll dress up as a character from said show at a Fest that you have to travel to.

EDIT - also appeared in said show's DVD set on Fest documentary LOL.  The list goes on and on and on...

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this."  -Dale Cooper

Yeah, okay. Point taken. But otherwise, I'm a bad fan. Anyway. My point was I knew they were in Canada (sort of. It could have been some kind of metaphor, too) but it appears Canada is another room in the Roadhouse. Fud gets it.

Just giving you a hard time!  I'm no expert either and never will be.  It confused me many years ago when it first came out, but once I saw the FWWM Deleted Scenes script it has the scene where Buck and the gang travel there via car.

i grudgingly admit that i thought it was some kind a metaphor at first :P

you know what this reminds me of? when i picked you up at the airport and we were talking on the way back to north bend and i mentioned the one-armed man and you said something like "yeah that was some terrible CGI" and i was convinced, instantly, that you were trying to convince me that it was CGI but that you really knew al strobel only had one arm. like, you were trying to kid me. so i was playing off like "yeah yeah har har" and then i realized that you thought it really WAS cgi and i had no idea what to do and it was probably the most hilariously awkward moment for me of the whole fest, and that's saying something.

Nefud, I was going to bring that bit about Al Strobel up, too! I did the same thing with Josh and Dan, and they thought I was kidding. LMAO. Twin Peaks was pre-CGI, of course. It just always looked like he was hiding his arm under his shirt in the video of the first (Don & Pat Shook hosted) Fest he attended. I have so much inside info, but it's tempered with me just being a 'tard.

J, I bought the FWWM script in about 94 and honestly hadn't read it since. I guess my problems is I don't have an eye/memory for detail. Most inaccuracies people complain about in FWWWM go right over my head.

I also have no sense of geography. Even after I was there in 2001, I thought Glastonbury Grove, the Audrey/Jack picnic, owl pipe, Briggs abduction etc. park in California was in Malibu. When I went back in 2007, I realized the zip code was 90210. NOT Malibu. I got confused because Big Ed's and Dr. Lydeckers's were in Malibu and we went there first, and Mulholland was the route we took to get to everything.

Underneath all this black hair dye, I'm still blonde at heart.

i finally got around to rewatching fwwm this weekend, and i somehow never caught the "i thought you always knew it was me"/"i never knew you thought it was me" exchange. holy shit, am i hearing that right, leland was always aware he was raping laura, and thought she knew!??! that's....odd.

Well you have to remember that it is a question as to whether or not it was actually LELAND in that scene, or Leland's Doppleganger.  I mean...it WAS Leland...but it was his Shadowself...the side that is weaker and can be controlled by Bob and later doesn't remember such things...but knows deep down.

It is very psychological.  When Leland says "I couldn't remember" during his death scene...we see the COMPLETE Leland....who does remember those things.  The Doppleganger (our shaow self) is aware of what Bob is doing in the sense of pleasure...but it stays away from our primary conciousness, being Bob is the one actually doing the raping and murdering.  Which means the good part of Leland was trapped away the whole time...and DIDN'T have any control.

Some people don't buy this idea though..but to me the last episode was meant to explain this with the whole Doppleganger thingy, and then Leland's Doppleganger SAYING "I did not kill anybody".

The Dweller on the Threshhold....more than just a Van Morrison song!

I've always seen it as Leland=Regular Leland+Bob
Bob wanted Laura to be Regular Laura+Bob
Cooper at the end of the series is doppelganger Cooper+Bob

That makes sense to me. The DoppleCooper+Bob acts too strangely (relative to the way Leland+Bob behaves) to be regular Cooper+Bob.

I don't get that.  I mean...Cooper (doppleganger Cooper) had JUST awaken when we saw him.  That is ALL we saw.

As far as Leland...he acted pretty zany, and I don't get why the possession idea would just work SO differently for each of them.  It seems it would be the same each time....

However, there is much debate on this, and I am not saying I am right...just that I don't agree.  Lastly though, it is possible that Lynch doesn't even have an exact thing on this because perhaps it is all not meant to be known and to be kinda ambigious, too.  The unknown can be much more effective than the easily explained....so it could be either.

The way Cooper repeats himself and the muted tone in which he speaks--he just seems kind of like an alien that's unsure of his human body, how the language works, etc. Leland seems much more like a "normal" person, just without the inhibitions that keep most of us from bursting into song & dance routines in public (or killing people). I guess, to me, that makes it seem like the situations are different, but I can definitely see your angle, too.

And your point about Lynch is well-taken.
