Angel, I am not patronizing you.  I only gave you my testamony like you just did about a book you are reading.  I can't save anyone.  And I am not trying to save anyone because I can't.  I do pray for the homeless, I have lived with and have fed the homeless in my city and other cities.  I pray for other people on this forum as well.  I never said porn stars are victims only that porn is destructive and I think the modeling industry is destructive as well.  I am not going to stop praying for you because God has laid it on my heart to pray for you.  And I do care about you and others on the fourum.  Although I have never met anyone in person, I have been on this forum long enough to care about the people on here including you.  Anyway, hope you enjoy your book.

Im reading Otherland by Tad Williams. I read it halfway a few years ago and got sidetracked and am just starting it over. I love the way he writes but this book skips around each chapter so if you do put it down ya kind of have to start it all over.

Anyone ever read Tailchasers Song? I think that was his first book. I read it when I was a kid and I still love it!

I'm about halfway through rereading Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones and Alan Alda's latest, Things I Overheard While Talking to Myself. Both impulse purchases when I got a whim to read them. This Kindle is going to be the death of my wallet. I swear.

What's Alan Alda's new one like?

I got his autobiography a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Like you, it was a bit of an impulse buy, and now I can't for the life of me think why I bought it! I don't even like M*A*S*H that much! I'm glad I did though. He's got a nice style.

His new one is good but it's far more reflective and introspective than you'd expect. He tells some good stories though. You might want to check it out from the library or at least thumb through a copy at a bookstore before picking it up, just to see if it is something you'll want to read.

Amanda - let me know how the Lovely Bones is. I bought and want to read it before I see the movie. As soon as I finish the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, that's going to be my next read.

I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Btw, have you seen Alda has a new science show on PBS, The Human Spark. It looks quite interesting. I was just watching a clip from it on their site: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/humanspark/video/web-exclusive-video-mirror-neurons/404/comment-page-1/#comment-439

Robert Altman - The Oral Biography by Mitchell Zuckoff

What a great read for an Altman fan.  Zuckoff has chosen to tell Altman's story in a manner reminiscent of his movies, using the words of Altman's family, friends, agents, writers, actors, producers, crew members--as well as interviews with Altman himself, up to a few weeks before his death.  Illuminating read about the man, his movies, the industry, and art.

I finished the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and I would recommend it to anyone. It's fantastic. Too bad the author died at such a young age BEFORE his 3 novels were published. Can't wait to read the next two.

Started the Lovely Bones. Great read so far. I think I will have this one finished in no time. I am really digging on the voice of this book. It's different and I like it.

I picked up Anathem by Neal Stephenson as my trip book because I've enjoyed his work in the past, it is long (981 pages with glossary and addendum) and it stands alone, unlike his previous three books.

I enjoyed immensely.  So much so that I read it through three times in a row on the trip and started it a fourth as the trip wrapped up.  It is great speculative fiction, science without a whole bunch of impossibly high tech stuff.  A fair amount of romance, a little mystery, philosophy, mathematics and over it all a great adventure story.  All set in a world that is strangely similar to out own while being, at the same time, quite a bit different.

I am reading Thinner by Stephen King and Boneman's Daughters by Ted Dekker.  I was reading Cujo by Stephen King and at first I liked it but then I lost interest.

CAUGHT _ Harlan Coben - if you are a fan of his you'll like this one, new lead characters, but ties in some old stand bys as well.

"Adrian Mole The Prostrate Years" by Sue Townsend, BRILL.  SO funny but this final (and brand new!) chapter in the Mole diaries has a really sad tone to it but I won't spoil it incase anyone else is reading.  I've totally loved the Mole diaries and this latest instalment is excellent, would highly recommed them, but ya have to start at the "Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4".

QUOTE:I wish there were books out there in the same vein as Twin Peaks, but I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to find something along those lines.  Quirky, supernatural small town mystery.

Try "The Body on The Beach by Simon Brett".  Or The Inspector Morse series. :)  Or The Adrian Mole seriesby Sue Townsend - they're not a murder mystery just FUNNY as anything I'd recommend them to all. :)

Hi Kevin!  Good luck with your book - I have a friend who's studying for a creative writing degree and I know it's not easy.  Maybe it'd help if you get someone you can trust to give an honest opinion (after you've written it) and a proofreader, before you submit your manuscript.  I like to try writing short stories and poems from time to time but I'm not very confident about them.

Anyhoo - I'm reading three books at the moment - The Lost Diaries of Adrian Mole (1999-2001) Sue Townsend, Daily Guidance from your Angels, (Doreen Virtue) and The Healing Miracles of Archangel Raphael (Doreen Virtue) fantastic!  I'm really enjoying all of them.
