this is a tenet of just about every major religion and code of ethics, it is not "new" and it's not "liberal" it's what seperates us from jackals

not to mention, no one earns jack shit by themselves. most of us are educated (i.e. recieve the means with which to make money) in a public school, raised by our parents, supported by our friends, sometimes even motivated by our enemies. the "rugged individual" is as mythical as phlogiston

There's a real simple fix for this peanut butter and other food poisoning problem. all industries are already required to test their foods at some sort of interval. Regulation only needs to change slightly:

1. Check yearly (a private company to do it - guess what that would create LONG TERM jobs throughout the nation - unlike turfing a field in some city)

2. private company must report to both the business AND the govt its finding - a law

3. a second test is to be done, and if it comes back bad, all food is recalled and the company fined X amount

Now if (IF IF IF) Obama and Company do anything with this, they are going to make a very simple fix into something huge with a ton of loopholes that allow business to skirt the issue and we're all back to square one!

Reagan was right 20+ years ago. Govt is not the answer. However, GOVT CAN BE AN ANSWER. My issue is that the way THIS GOVT works, it ain't.

amazing how some days, you can stumble across a story that proves your point.

Dems railed against bush about Katrina and not helping enough then, and then not spending enough afterwards to help out New Orleans. The city and surrounding area is still suffering. So after all that political rhetoric, we find this AP story which shows when push come to shove, Dems forgot about New Orleans and the people struggling due to that natural disaster.

That's the problem with the two party system, you really need several parties to be fed up with.

i like that whenever the US sets up a government, we help them set up a parliment, because it's clearly the best democratic model in place today. yet we at home have to clunk along with this 2-party shit.

You need to give reviews of those in the last movie seen thread since you watch a 100 of them every weekend.

What, movies or pornos? You need to be clearer in your hyperbole.

Helping the needy should be noncompulsory. Morality is not something that should be government-mandated, 1984-style. America wouldn't be the superpower it is today without leaders with flexible morals, and neither would have Rome.

Why not have the philanthropic in higher tax brackets give double or triple for those that don't want to pay higher taxes? This way, capitalism is preserved and everyone feels better about themselves.

lol can't wait to get off work so i can do an 8-ball and rape some nuns, because morality shouldn't be government mandated!

some people need help adhering to basic moral values, be it "don't cross the street unless it's at a cross walk" or "please don't chop children up and eat them." it's not a stretch to imagine that "don't let people die in the street because you want that 3rd boat" is something that should be mandated

Is this a moral issue, because I have done it a couple of times. I hope not.
There were no cars of course, that would be dangerous.

Yes, I would advocate a libertarian society. I don't know much about anarchy, but I know that good people don't need laws and bad people don't obey them, anyway.

(Punk died in the 80's, j- when you were in college, right?)

it seems like it'd require a giant sea change in the moral code of nearly every human being on the planet, though. that, or it'd be like living in an episode of deadwood for the rest of your (probably very short and unenjoyable) life
