Anyone else watch Lost on here?
Did you watch the premiere last night?
Where do you think the story is headed?
Any interesting clues or theories you obtained from last nights 2 hour premiere?

My husband (and our son) are faithful viewers of the show. I listen to it in the background and as such have never been pulled in. Yesterday's LA Times had a rather negative view of this season. Husband was confused and a little put out by last night's opening. I don't know what my son thinks yet. Here's the LA Times story. Susan

Thanks for the article, nuart. I am surprised especially on this site that no one watches or cares about Lost.

Arzt had the best death on the show - Hurley says something like "I think I have Arzt on me."

I watch, but I'm not hardcore about it (haven't seen every episode of the show). I'm probably missing stuff (like do we know who the old lady in the church who talked to Ben is?) I actually liked the episode- loved Hurley's parents (Cheech Maron was his dad). The stuff on the Island is very Dr. Who-ey. So far they are doing it pretty well- you get the sense that even with all the weird crap they have been through so far that their new problem is really keeping them off balance. You can also really sense the absence of the group's leaders. The information that the physicist has seems kind of bogus though- all of a sudden he knows wtf is going on?
I'll be happy if they have fewer flashbacks this season, it worked well in the past and gave a nice structure to the seasons but I think it will seem like its just stretching things out if they don't just stay with the current plots... Also hoping for more on the Island- I love star-trekky fake physics crap to explain weird phenomenon! Am bummed about the prospects Desmond and Penny though- I've been rooting for them! Edit- realized I missed the first 5 minutes, when Physics guy was for some reason helping build the orchid station.

I think she is Daniel Farraday's mother, she obviously knows or has something to do with the time travel stuff, and she first appeared in the Desmond-centric episode Flashes Before Your Eyes as the jewelry store owner.

When Lost first came out, we talked about it quite a bit, wondering where all the comparisons were coming from. Article after article declared it the new Twin Peaks. Which obviously it's not, and now we can see why television critics truly are idiots, but whatever. But anyway, the show grew old and tired very quickly, and I think a lot of us simply had better television to focus on (Sopranos, SFU, Weeds, to name a few). I know there are some folks here who still watch the series, but I think it speaks volumes that it doesn't move them to have discussions on the board about it.

I quit paying attention to "The Next Twin Peaks" declarations years ago because there is no such thing. The only common theme between them is they are both one long ongoing mystery.

Well, this is a Twin Peaks forum. If we want to discuss Lost, it would make more sense to talk about it in a place where everyone actually knows about it. The reason that Lost has had an ever-decreasing circle of viewers is not because it is decreasing in quality (though it did have slight dips). It's because it has become more and more for dedicated fans as it has become more complex and more science-fiction. I can see exactly why people can't be bothered with watching a show that you have to watch again and again to make sense of. As for me, I love the mythology and complexity of it. Twin Peaks was different because it wasted no time in showing how weird it was gonna be. Whereas Lost has taken five seasons to go from a character-based show seeming to comment on society, A Lord of the Flies, to pure sci-fi time-travel weirdness. I love both aspects of it, and the suggestion that time travel might have been a part of the show even at the beginning is really exciting (whether or not it's true).

Chris Mulkey has been in an episode. If that doesn't give it instant street cred, I don't know what does.

Don't kill the messenger. Although an unfair comparison, Lost has an immensely bigger fanbase than Twin Peaks and had a lot longer staying power. I like Twin Peaks better, but Lost is by no means a bad or boring show.

It started out as "I bet can watch every other episode and not miss anything" and when that turned out to be true I kept doing that for a while and then I started skipping more episodes and now I haven't seen an episode since the third season and I don't feel like I've missed anything.

The only reason I won't buy Lost on DVD is I don't believe it has a high rewatchability factor going for it. It is going to be resolved and the mysteries will not linger on like Twin Peaks, which is a beautiful thing and has enhanced its staying power.

We are still watching Lost. A couple of seasons ago, I think they were beginning to lose their way (the writers and producers) but after coming to an agreement with ABC about it having an actual end to the series, I think has helped. I still like the series but it does feel tedious at times. And no, i don't think it is at all re-watchable. I wouldn't buy the DVDs.

I've watched the first three seasons twice. The first season is easily rewatchable. There is a few episodes in the 2nd and 3rd seasons (especially the beginning of the third season) that are a bit of a drag. But I can still see myself rewatching it for a third time. I think it is a really rewatchable show. There's loads of stuff that you miss first time round. TP is rewatchable more for the mood, whereas I think there are more hidden clues that you catch on rewatching with Lost. I'm tired of defending it now though. I really don't know why other's opinions matter so much to me. It really gets to me for some reason. It's stupid, you can't expect eceryone to like what you like.

I think you are correct in that Lost is a good show, giospurs. In fact, I believe you said it was your favorite and like it more than Twin Peaks. I like TP better. I am very surprised though at the lack of interest in the show on this site. It is not the new Twin Peaks, but there are some similar themes and storytelling methods. I just think since Lost will be getting closure it would be less rewatchable whereas Twin Peaks is going to be this eternal ongoing mystery that you can always go back to and try to decipher something new from due to lack of closure. That's all. Lost is good though, I don't care what Amanda says.

Some other shows that have/had a bigger fanbase that TP and had longer staying power: Friends, CSI: Miami, 7th Heaven, Grey's Anatomy They appeal to the masses, and so they have a larger fanbase and stick around longer. Appealing to the masses definitely does NOT mean a show is good. More often than not it indicates that something is bland and palatable. Who wants bland and palatable? (not saying Lost falls into that category...just saying that the comparison is weak) | QUOTE:I am very surprised though at the lack of interest in the show on this site. That makes about as much sense as those people who show up wondering why we're not all jerking off over Wild Palms, and is akin to the comparisons that critics have made between Twin Peaks and Lost. It's like there's this general expectation that because something includes mysterious other-worldly circumstances, a "small town feel" and is "weird" compared to everything else on TV, that Twin Peaks fans would be instantly drawn to it. I think that very expectation merely serves to drive TP fans away. The show has been hyped to the extreme and hasn't lived up to its reputation, nor to the claims of being like TP in any way, be it in theme, method, or even camera angles. That's not to say that Lost isn't a good show in its own right. When it's on, it's ON. People love it, and I can understand and appreciate why they would. But to expect TP fans to love it simply because there may be some similarities...*shrug* It's not logical. There was the expectation that TP fans would be drooling over Push, Nevada when it came out, and most of us simply gathered here to make fun of it rather than take it seriously. We're a fickle bunch and just any old show won't do. :) And by the way, I'm not the only one poo-pooing the show, so I'm not quite sure why you specifically name-dropped me in your last post.
