Thoughts on this weeks episode?  I liked this one- hey it had smoke monster, and another scene/visual that I thought was well done- when Locke was cllmbing down the well then the next moment Sawyer is just standing there holding a rope that goes nowhere.  Thought the reveal that the red-haired anthropologist was born on the island was kind of lame though- her childhood made such a huge impression that she spent her whole life trying to find the island again, but she only just now recognized Faraday?

Are we supposed to recognize the dude Locke was talking to in the cave?

The dude in the cave is Christian Shepherd, Jack's "dead" dad.

I don't know what it is, but I have been having a hard time getting into Lost this season.  I really think they have dragged it out too long and should have ended after 5 seasons instead of 6 seasons.

But this season is where they start getting towards a resolution!

I can see why some people think they dragged it out too long, but it was the 2nd and 3rd seasons where this was having an effect on the show. After this, the writers were told what the end-date would be, so they could really plan the remaining seasons. I think there was filler storyline in those 2nd and 3rd seasons (though I still enjoyed the filler) but this current plotline is where the series was always heading I think.

It was a really good episode last night, giospurs.  I won't say anything since you may have not seen it yet.

Agreed- an episode with a lot going on- definitely one of the better non-island episodes.  Sometimes the series drags, but I think usually the writers do a pretty good job of presenting enough of the story to frame the parts they haven't yet revealed. There were several characters we didn't follow over the past 46 hours, and possibly some new characters coming in as well...

Cheers for not spoiling it.  I just watched it last night, and thought it was very good. It had a really different feel to the other Season 5 episodes, and that was a really good thing. Although I think Season 5 has had a great story, there has seemed to be something not quite right, like it felt a bit sluggish at times. But this episode, despite leaving much unexplained (where is Aaron?, why are Hurley and Sayid on the plane? what is going on with Locke? and what was Ben doing before he got on the plane?) had a really good fast pace. Maybe it benefited from not trying to deal with too much plot. We've been used to skipping between the Island and Oceanic 6/Desmond this season, and I think they did the right thing in separating the groups into separate episodes (I'm anticipating all Sawyer/Juliet/Faraday action this week).

It's pretty obvious Ben killed Penny.

It seems too obvious to leave as a mystery though. I think there must be more to it than that.

Having said that, it would be ridiculous for that episode to try and deal with the fall-out of Penny dying. It was nice seeing Desmond happy with Penny but I suppose this had to happen to give Desmond something to do, and it will be interesting to see Widmore's response.

I think it is way too obvious, but they have to get Desmond back to the island somehow and Ben is going to pay Widmore back for killing his "daughter".

I clearly missed an episode somewhere- when did Penny die?

It is obvious, covered in blood next to sailboats making a phone call. How do you get Desmond back to the island? He killed Penny.

Yeah. You could see in this episode that Desmond's presence is pointless if he is in a happy marriage.

ahhh, nuts.  I hope you're wrong.  I think Desmond is the only character I actually like on this show (or at least feel sorry for).  well, maybe Sayid too.  I was thinking the fact he was at a marina had to do with him meeting everyone there in the previous episode. I didn't have a guess as to who beat him up- maybe Kate?

Kate annoys the crap out of me for some reason.

I know this is a little off topic for lost, but have any of you watched OZ. I recently started watching this online and I've noticed over a half dozen actors who are on Lost. Anybody know why?

Last night's ep was average.  I still think they should have wrapped it up in 5 seasons.

Agreed- try to not be too spoilish but the Locke "love story" added very little, and his visits probably could have been condensed. Could have been about half the length, leaving more time for island stuff, justification for Ben's odd turn of behavior, or maybe more backstory on Locke's companion throughout the episode.

btw-  Coolsprings- here's my retarded Lost question of the week.  If I remember we already saw Locke's chauffer in conjunction with Sayid this season?  Not sure of the timeline of it though- it would seem that the events in this most recent episode pre-date his previous appearance.  for obvious reasons based on the events of this episode that is kind of problematic...

The only other Abbadon appearances I remember are when with Locke when he was in a wheelchair, with Hurley in the mental home, and with Nadia before the freighter left.

Sorry, bio, I can't remember any other than what gio said.  I thought Abaddon was gonna be a more important character.

Also, I was watching the movie Old School the other day and freakin' Locke was in it!  Talk about a fish out of water!

Structurally, the flashforwards in Season 4 meant that it seems we've been seeing the same thing for a long time now. From the finale of Season 3 to episode 6 of Season 5 we have been seeing the same old fairly uninteresting Oceanic 6 stuff.

Maybe, the writers just went too complex, possibly plot-wise, but definitely in the story-telling. At least the off-Island stuff is over now (apart from Desmond) so that will change things for the better hopefully. Though we've still got two different groups in different time-periods so it's still not exactly simple.

The 'Should Locke have faith?' question is definitely over now at least, what with him being reincarnated.
