I just discovered that all the MST3K movies are on YouTube, so I watched Kitten With a Whip last night.   Night Tide showed up in my Netflix last night.  Frank Booth was pretty sexy as a young man.

Well now, never fear, I won't ever mention OLdboy again, but I will mention Notes on a Scandal....I can't find anything negative to say about this film and if the screenplay was dull, which it is far from being, Blanchett and Dench are in top form. They Definitely deserve their nominations. They won't win but they are richy deserved. The story is quite compact since the film is a little over 90 minutes, the tension builds nicely throughout. I am a little behind because I woke up right before they announced the Oscars...but I would check out this film.

I like Cate Blanchett alot, but the trailer I saw for this gave away the entire plot and many of what I assume would be important developments throughout the plot. Pretty annoying. I have a feeling this will be one I'll have to go see by myself.

The Illusionist

I liked this one.  And who knew that Jessica Biel could act.  Strong performances all around.

The Pursuit of Happyness

About what I expected - a touching drama based on a true story.  A well made, and nicely balanced piece of work. 8/10.

The Ice Harvest

A meandering plot that left me unsure where it was going.  I'm a long-term Cusack fan ever since the teen flick Better Off Dead.  Pair him up with Billy-Bob in this one and you've got some good performances.  It's no classic, but worth a watch.  7/10.

Master of Horror: Imprint

How fitting that the only part that came close to fit the name was the one that they chose not to air. This one acually looks good, even though it is a bit too long and by the end I had gotten quite bored with it.

This was one rancid ball-less scrotum of a series.

I'm very looking forward to see Blood Diamond just for the sake of watching an adventure flick that is set in South Africa and Mozambique. Plus, there is Jennifer Connelly as the female star. I don't know if Leonardo Di Caprio is good in this. Normalli I like him, but lately he also bored me .. Anyone seen it? Is it worth watching?

Saw it, thought it was very good and all the actors "acquitted themselves admirably". I think of the two performances Leo should have been nominated for The Departed. Djimon Hounsou definitely deserved it. It is worth checking out. It gets a little preachy, but barely as Edward Zwick's films have been of late (The Siege, The Last Samurai) but an overall A for effort.

Last two movies I watched were Sideways and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. I am not available for comment at this time.

 Blood Diamond

Really good, but should have been far better. It had too much of an "Action Movie" feel to properly convey its fairly powerful message, and also some bad attempts at humour, and some really cheesy moments were kind of its downfall. But all in all it was a really great film, and Leonardo continues to impress me.

Okay, then I'll watch Blood Diamond!

Hey, smokie. I finally got to see Sideways like you. I found it to be a little better than About Schmidt just because it's more adventurous and comic, its got more situations and it revolves around more characters. On the other hand, Schmidt has got THE star! Sideways has got Paul Giamatti, who is another little actor that I truly love (except that thing he accepted to do with M. Night Shyamalan. God, forgive me for seeing that!).

Blood Diamond - the acting is amazing and the way South Africa was shot and represented is really brave. Definitely a j'accuse film with almost no sentimental pauses. Maybe a little too action-packed, but it was impressive. Jennifer Connelly was a little too much in the background, in my opinion. Anyway, the good result is absolutely given by the great performances.

Since I don't give a damn about the Oscars that the actors will be given, I say that Leonardo Di Caprio is an amazing and versatile actor who will remain in the history of cinema. Aacademy award or no academy award, he is one of the best. Anyway, They really should give Djimon Hounsou a lot of awards because he needs to be a much visible actor. He reaffirms the greatness of african people!

I just (tried to) watch World Trade Center, but it just didn't do it for me.  For one, I couldn't suspend disbelief long enough to imagine Nic Cage as the heroic fire chief.  Second, something that I still remember the impact of so clearly just doesn't have the cathartic entertainment value of a period piece about a tragedy I wasn't alive for.   (Not that it was inappropriate, just that future generations might have appreciated it more.)

Then I watched Crank, with Jason Statham, which makes a perfect date movie.  Constant action for the guys,
and pretty steady laughs, too.

Notting Hill

A romantic comedy where they don't skip the comedy part. Hugh Grant being all... Hugh Grantish.

Brazil

Absurd, funny, interesting to look at... what took me so long to see this? The more I think about the ending, the more I like it. Though the sequence leading up to the reveal was starting to get a little tedious. Alright, it's a dream all ready! Let's get to it!

Little Miss Sunshine

Not too bad, but Best Picture Nominee?  Why?  I'm always happy to see the Academy nominate child actors, and would be thrilled to see Abby Breslin pull off the biggest upset of the night.  But Alan Arkin as Best Supporting Actor?  Again, why?  Is it that difficult to play the a foul-mouthed old person?

I think Brazil has one of the best endings ever. Not necessarily because of the way it's made, but because of the feeling it gives me.
The movie starts to wear out its welcome towards the end but when the ending finally appears, it's so fantastic that I want to watch the movie again, and any movie that can accomplish that feeling is a special one.

I think its the way the film quietly fades into the credits but continues to show Pryce sitting in the chair that really makes the ending even better.

B, I'm really hoping Little Miss Sunshine doesn't win the Academy Award and pull off a Crash style upset. It was a moderately okay little movie but enough already.

I had no great expectations going into this film either but had heard the husband-wife director team interviewed and was curious to see what they did with an $8,000,000 budget. Watched it, had a couple of chuckles, many moments of suspended belief, many more times where I said to myself, "Oh boy, I never saw that coming " followed by an "Aw, you're kidding me -- that's it?" feeling at the end. By the time the final credit were rolling, Little Miss Sunshine was already out of my mind. Until... until all the praise. It's not as bad as My Big Fat Greek Wedding but it's part of the same school. The greater the acclaim for these so-so films, the greater my and I'd hate to have it cap off the Academy Award night with a win.  Oh well, that can't happen...

The acting most deserving of nominations in LMS were Toni Collette's, Greg Kinnear's, the teenage brother's (don't know his name) and Abigail Breslin's herself. Steve Carrell was droll and fun.  Alan Arkin was the least deserving. Stick around this town long enough and people remember your name when that time of year rolls around, I suppose. Something tells me his nomination is more of the life time achievement variety.

Love & Sex

Famke Janssen is attractive and Jon Favreau is lumpy. Maybe it's more of a "chick flick" because it's very obviously written and directed by a woman, and I felt that there was nothing worthwhile about it. It began and 90 (probably less) minutes later it ended.
