So the pig experimentation was in O Lucky Man? Weird, I can't remember that and I watched it 2 years ago (pg. 34) and you guys remember it from 30 years ago (36 if you watched it when it premiered).

McDowell has left the Earth Mother figure in the countryside. Walking out of the woods he finds the highway.  The hospital truck pulls up to him, offering him cash for a research trial, and off he goes...to meet the mad doctor.  Graham Crowden was fun to see in that role.  I always enjoyed him in Waiting for God.

I finally got round to watching the Evil Dead Trilogy last week. I enjoyed the series immensley.

The first film, Evil Dead, scared the hell out of me. I didn't expect it to do so considering the low budget, etcetera; however, it certainly seems that low budget horror flicks are the way to go.

The sequel / remake, Evil Dead 2, took a turn which I did not predict. Prior to watching the second film I accidentally read what was going to happen at the end of the film / start of Army of Darkness; to be specific, that Ash would travel back in time to 1300AD. The Ash presented in the first film doesn't seem like an epic hero who travels through time fighting evil. I am sure that my confusion can be understood. Therefore, upon seeing the second film in the series I began to understand why people idolize Ash and the mighty chin of Bruce Campbell -- the comedic approach to the horror didn't clash with the first film at all. Unlike previous horror flicks which have reduced themselves to comedy (eg. the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise), Evil Dead pulls it off to perfection.

The third Evil Dead installment, Army of Darkness, wasn't quite as good as its predecessors. Regardless, the film was enjoyable and interesting -- especially the way in which Ash's madness continues to manifest. It makes me wonder whether the whole series is a hallucination from Ash, in which he makes himself the hero: the progression from II to III is also a huge jump, considering Ash's now veteran approach to the Deadites when he's only been combatting the hoardes of evil for a day or two. Perhaps Ash makes himself the hero within his chaotic dream. Who knows -- roll on Evil Dead 4, which appears to be a possibility if Sam Raimi's comments are anything to go by.

Last film I watched was Oldboy, a Korean feature about revenge and romances. I was very amazed by the quality of the film, as the director managed to capture Dae-su's intentions and obsession on screen perfectly. My favorite scenes include: the famous video game-like scroll fight in the corridors of the building, which was very creative; the flashback explaining the reason for everything that has been happening in the film; finally, the conclusion. I won't go into much details, as I'd rather you watch it and not hear it from me (although I doubt any of you cinephiles haven't seen it yet). Kudos to the composer, as well, for a great soundtrack.

10/10.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Pretty amusing romantic comedy.

The Conversation

Was a little disappointed by this, since it's been hailed as a masterpiece but it fell a bit short of that.
The 70s was a good decade for Coppola.

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage

Started out good, with good music, nice cinematography. A couple of good atmospheric moments, but towards the end the investigation gets more boring with an ending that clears everything up with boring exposition à la Psycho.
There is one bit that is hilarious though, just when Dalmas puts down the phone after finding out where to find the painter he starts to speak really quickly (Italian version). That cracked me up.

Once Upon a Time in the West

I enjoyed it immensely. It wasn't slow in any scene, despite it being somewhat of a long film, and I loved the use of "delayed" opening credits in the initial train station sequence. Everything I was asking myself as the film went on was answered by the end of it, along with it an amazing revelation. This is another example of why Ennio Morricone is such a superb composer, as I found myself humming the themes whenever they were featured in the background. As for the cast, I thought the acting was great, and Claudia Cardinale was absolutely beautiful. The ending with her character giving the workers water was a nice way to close this feature.

10/10.

Suspiria

This movie seems to be constructed like a string of beads. Argento started with some suspenseful moments (murders), and the story is just there to keep them together. Unfortunately this is no necklace, so the beads are unevenly spaced and there are quite a few long moments when all we get is string, which isn't interesting.
But the music is pretty great, and the last few minutes were really quite spooky.

Happy Go Lucky

Mike Leigh has such an interesting way of making a movie.  Instead of starting off with a finished screenplay, through rehearsals he and his cast improvise with ideas until the script emerges. This gives the film a wonderful immediacy and "realness".  This is the story of Poppy, an elementary school teacher full of optimism, compassion, caring, and silliness.  For the first 20 minutes or so, you might wonder if you can watch a full movie with what appears to be an airhead and her friends.  But keep watching.  What unfolds is a moving story of the growth of Poppy as she encounters intolerance, racism, child abuse, & mental illness.  Wonderful views of London, full of color, great performances (especially from Eddie Marsan, who plays Poppy's hateful driving instructor.)  Poppy is an inspiring character. and this is a fine movie.

Reversal of Fortune

I never knew until recently that Alexandra Isles was Claus von Bulow's mistress.  Sad that she was involved in this mess, as she was one of my earliest crushes.

Somewhat interesting - if dated - film.  It does have the feel of a tv movie of the week.  I was never a Glenn Close fan, but she gives a strong performance here.  Jeremy Irons took the Best Actor award for his role as Claus.

Rear Window

My third Hitchcok film and also the third one to get a 10/10 score. I geniunely feared for the characters whenever they were in peril, and I even yelled at them to get the fuck out of a tight spot, something I never do while watching a movie.

Casino

Wow, was Robert DeNiro's acting in this one something! This was like a Goodfellas but set in Las Vegas, only that Casino had a more messed up ending. I despised how Sharon Stone's character, Ginger, got away with any attempt of demoralizing Sam, which means she gave a good performance, as well. I kept waiting for Sam to die in a car explosion throughout the film, but everything turned out just fine. Another great Martin Scorsese film I've watched.

Possibly. Definitely 9.5-10/10. There were a lot of interruptions while I was watching it, so I hope I get to rewatch it someday.

Cat o' Nine Tails

A better and more balanced movie than Crystal Plumage, though it seems a bit too long.

The Fury

Despite all its flaws it's still a better movie than Scanners.

Sisters

I'm not a fan of De Palma, but I did like this one. William Finley is one of the best movie creeps I have ever seen. And the use of split-screen is fantastic.

Last Year at Marienbad

I enjoyed it a lot, it and its dream-like cinematography (it kinda remember me of Lynch-esque styles). The way the narration shifted from voice-over to actually being spoken by the characters in the scene was amazing, and the filming techniques employed during the statue scene were delicious.

I give it a generous 8.5/10.

Does anyone else think that it would be nice to have an index of the movies in this thread?
I'm not doing it all by myself though, so if three other people are willing to go over ~15 pages each?

Sure, I'm just OCD enough to do that.

Fireproof - This was better than I thought it would be.

The Thing - I have not seen this one in years.  I forgot how good it was!

The Cave - It was okay.  It was kind of like Alien in a cave.

Milk - It was okay.  Sean Penn did a great job.  It was slow in parts.

Public Enemy - It was okay Johhny Depp did a great job.  It was slow in parts.
