Lost Boys: The Tribe

WHY, GOD, WHY?!!!!

I don't know why I actually paid to download this on Amazon Unboxed and give it a whirl. I think some tiny sick little part of me really needed to see for myself if it was as bad as we all expected it to be. It did not disappoint. There's a reason this crap went straight to DVD, folks.

The plot is tired and thin, mostly a rehashing of the original. The acting is poor. Zero character growth for Edgar Frog (played by Corey Feldman...but like I really expected growth in this film, right?). I've seen fanbois saying that the film wasn't trying to be a sequel so much as it was trying to pay homage to the original. Yeah. Eat me.

Best part of the film is Aiden's cover of "Cry Little Sister." I've had a crush on lead singer wiL Francis for like ever, so. It worked for me. Though you still can't beat the original version either.

For anyone desiring a larf at the Coreys expense, there are alternate endings for the film on YouTube you can view (they're from the DVD). Corey F is bad enough. Corey H takes it all the way with his unbelievably shite acting. I will never understand how they went so completely awry...

Anyway. Save your souls. Watch the original and be happy you haven't soiled your eyeballs with this crapfest.

I'd rather watch Salem's Lot for hot antler-piercing action.

I had avoided this for a long while knowing that it was Tati's first movie after the financial fiasco of Playtime left him bankrupt. And unfortunately everything I feared was true, timing is off, jokes fall flat, and it's boring.

Of course by now the 70s had reared its ugly head, so different from the more aesthetically pleasing decades that had preceded it and where Tati had made his three best movies.
One more thing that added to my dislike was that the plot is that they are going to Amsterdam, therefore there's quite a bit of Dutch being spoken, which is the only language I've heard that I would call repulsive.

Lost Boys:  The Tribe

Lost Boys (1987) is one of my favorite films of all time.  Lost Boys:The Tribe is terrible.

I've never known any Dutch people who habla-ed Dutch!  I thought English was the native tongue over there.

But anyway, we watched "Hard Candy" last night and what a good (ouch!) time that was!  Once again, I loved the behind the scenes, making and marketing of... extras.  I do believe DVD extras may be my favorite films.  When is the Academy going to have a category for Best DVD Extras? Or maybe a separate award show for DVD Extras?  After all, what Hollywood really needs is more award shows.

Ellen Page is sooooooo good that I see her destined for a very long career if she can stay focused and keep her perspective.  A tough challenge and I have no idea if she's up to the task.  Watching each of her face's 100+ mini muscles conveying every nuance of emotion in close-up throughout this film was worth the price of admission.  Gawd, she's good!

Which brings me to the last "film" I watched,

Requiem for Krypton: The Making of Superman Returns

This 2 hr 54 minute DVD documentary covers nearly every aspect of the much-maligned superhero movie's production. It's a mostly fly-on-the-wall type of experience, which is my favorite type of behind the scenes feature. It shows a young director with a reverence for Richard Donner's take on the character, who finds himself spearheading a sprawling production and manages to keep his head above water while exploring his own vision. As a budding filmmaker, I found it quite inspiring.
It would have been interesting to see a retrospective bit, exploring the creative team's reaction to Returns' lukewarm critical and box office reception, but since the turnaround on DVD features makes that nearly impossible, I'll have to wait until some future release. I may be the only one looking forward to Bryan Singer's next entry in his vision of the franchise.

Celine and Julie go boating

After I'd finished watching the movie I checked out the user comments on the imdb. Apparently this movie is a hypnotic, hilarious, and delightful romp.
So what movie did I see? It was none of those things - boring, ugly, unfunny. Quite possibly the most overrated "obscure" movie ever.

Quite good psychosexual drama/horror. And a good non-bombastic score by John Williams.

The Falls

It's kind of sad when you find a filmmaker with whom you share certain interests, but you can not establish any kind of meaningful relationship with them. There's an unfortunate "death by boredom" aspect of Greenaway's movies that makes me feel like I should just give up on him now.

The Films of the Brothers Quay

Good stuff, and top notch craftsmanship. The Comb is probably my favorite.

I looked this up on IMDb. A Robert Altman horror movie? I'm intrigued.

It's kind of difficult to say what it is, it's mainly a psychological drama but with elements of thriller and horror.
It's not a straight up horror movie, and I don't really think Susannah York was able to carry the whole thing, but it's definitely worth a watch. Probably two.

Doncha think it's like a secret club here at "Last Movie, a little more in-depth"?  You click on the subject and then find the 50 pages of posts but the 50th page is a ruse and it is for members only to locate the most recent review.

I like that.

The Quiet Man -  I loved the way it was filmed.  It is like each scene is a picture, but it is John Ford, so I mean what did I expect.

Other recent movies I have watched are as follows:  10, Mall Rats, The Shaft, and The Pineapple Express.

Oh boy, its been a few years, but I've seen some movies and will try this whole internets thing again.

I just started watching movies (other than "family" movies - blech) again after a hiatus of about . . . whenever Inland Empire came out (I don't think the two are related). But I have seen 10 or so in the last couple of weeks. Before that it was like a dessert except for two I remember.

I saw the Wedding Crashers with a bunch of "normal" friends and it seemed very funny, but I was drinking during the movie and it got funnier and funnier as it went, and usually comadies go the other way, so I don't know.

I saw I am Legend and had just gotten a German Shepherd puppy a couple of weeks before, so you can guess I didn't like that one bit.

My son just turned 10 so I decided to indoctrinate/educate him, so we'll be watching lots of movies over the next years, but mostly the ones I like, so I've already seen 'em obviously. We're starting with Westerns and War movies because, well he's 10.

Saw The Man with No Name trilogy, Magnificant Seven, Bridge Too Far, three older James Bonds (the trade-off) and we both loved the silly climax to Dr. No. Also saw The Fountain (a new one for me - I liked it OK, he thought it was boring - well duh), West Side Story and Rear Window.

Hope to post some too. Hi Booth!

Straight, No Chaser, the Thelonious Monk biography.  Kinda sad, kinda funny, incredible music, some really good footage, nice pacing and understated tone.

I also endured The Tribe. Sweet white Jesus, who was that chode they got to play the male lead? Terrible, terrible. Corey F had one line that made me chuckle, only because I was too tired to cry at that point.

I'm Not There, however, is a clever piece of postmodern historical fiction. Great soundtrack. Brilliant casting; Cate, Christian, Heath are all fantastic, but Ben Wishaw (Jean-Baptist Grenouille in Perfume) does it to it. Yeah, baby.

Right now I'm watching Teeth while I do my homework. Lenny von Dohlen is in the opening scene which is promising. EDIT: Teeth was... really good. I want teeth in mine!!! Do they do that at tattoo parlors, or should I see a specialist?

Since you weren't born with one, you'll have to settle for a vagina dentura.
Side effects include, rattling crotch, and sexual partners asking you to "gum" them.

I'm still working on expanding the use of smilies. I think they can be the next digital.

There's a "rape tunnel" called the vagina dentata I could get, alternately. Bring it on, fellas!

What the hell are you freaks (12rainbow and Booth) talking about?

I thought this was a movie thread!?!?!?!?

I feel like I'm inside of a Marilyn Manson home video.
