I probably would have given the other nomination to Little Children...I haven't seen Little Miss Sunshine, but Luis is gonna loan it to me so I can check it out. The only "upset" I foresee is Peter O' Toole over Forest Whitaker just because it's Peter and he's been nominated bookoo times and never won.

Scary Movie 2
I found the bird's comment that he fvcked some guy's momma hilarious just because of the mental picture. Had it been a dog or a horse it would have been disgusting, but a bird? Laugh city*. Other than that, it's only Chris Elliott's tiny hand and overall gross appearance that's even remotely amusing.

A Hard Day's Night - forgotten how hilarious this film actually is! Forgotten all about Paul's grandpa - but how could I??? He got engaged after all ;-) But he doesn't like Ringo cause he's short :-((( Harry Potter & Azkaban - watchable alright but where has the tension of the book gone?! I couldn't make myself care for any of the characters, which I perfecly did even at reading the same chapter for the third time... Lost Highway - it's my fifth watching and the first time I actually got lost on that highway

Three Burials is a great film and a wonderful script by Guillermo Arriaga (who penned Alejandro Inarritu's 3 films and who us nominated for his screenplay for Babel). Speaking of which, sorry I can't answer your question, goodmorning, I saw Babel but my bourbon-adled brain can't recall it at the moment. Vertigo - classic! I am always amazed by Jimmy Stewart's performance in this film, especially in the last 45 minutes. It might be his best work or at least one of his best.

Notes on a Scandal Really excellent, and I really didnt think this looked very good. But Jonathan Ross, who I think is the best film critic to listen too, said it was great, and he wasnt wrong. Really compelling stuff.

Is it the thing with Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench? I was appealed too when I saw the trailer last saturday in the theatre, watching Stranger than fiction

Thats the one. For once I think Judi Dench actually deserves the Oscar nod.

Yeh, I think that's a movie worth watching, just for the performances. I mean, I like Cate Blanchett but she seems to have only appeared in a few films that didn't quite higlight her perfectness. I think her best performances that I've seen are in Coffee and Cigarettes and Talented Mr. Ripley. Though I haven't seen it yet because it's yet to be released in this country. Anyway, I think a plot where an adult woman in the teaching decides to go into a relationship with a student is kind of obsolete. But I hear and understand that the point of the film is not that specific relationship, but the one between the teacher and her female headmaster. Is Judy Dench playing a headmaster? Plus, I liked the movie this same director has made on Iris Murdoch. It starred two great actresses as well, Judi Dench again and the lovely Kate Winslet, impersonating the same woman in different periods in the woman's life. And I know Patrick Marber, the writer, enough to say he knows the job of the playwright really well.

Did I mention I saw Children Of Men, and that I found it mostly pretty good? Well, I did. Excellent sound and music, good use of cinematography. Self-aware and satirical, and aware of the bombast of its allegories. Bleak as hell, but I'm a sucker for dystopias.

Rocky Balboa Ok, so I'm a self-confessed Rocky fan. Being a red-blooded male, I can't help but get sucked in by the macho grandstanding and the idea that somehow you can sort out all your world's problems in the ring. I've teared up at the end of every Rocky, and this was no exception. Mind you, sporting films in general tend to do that to me. This wasn't my favourite in the series, but a capable inclusion. For me it never reached the heights of a couple of the other movies, but it did so a good job of tying up loose ends of the admittedly thin plotlines. I liked the fact that this story was at least plausible and realistic - not some far-fetched comeback story. It's not a work of cinematic genius, but a fitting end to this very long series of slug-fests. RIP Rocky. 7/10.

Tried to watch Amadeus, but the disc was cracked so I have no idea how it ends. Suck. Milos Forman is so badass.
I'm really glad I got to see Valley of the Wolves Iraq. If for no other reason that to see a perspective of the war in Iraq from another cultural point of view. It was melodramatic, but no worse than most of the drama-action movies we get from Hollywood. The caricatures of the Americans were so hilarious (they were all super buff and oily like Rambo and hardly any of them had military spec haircuts.) Zane was definitely chosen for this reason: his cheesy-villainy overacting. Only one conversation refers to Busey's character as being Jewish, and it's only to show that there are internal religious conflicts in the States, and that people hold tightly to their beliefs. I don't think any Americans who watched this could possibly be offended (well, I guess on principle US soldiers might- but they'll probably avoid it altogether. My boyfriend did.) nor do I think it will change Mid East countries opinions of the US one way or another. But I also totally understand why it won't be released here. It wasn't made for us.

I have a special heartshapebox ,she toured out that way, and bought that special wrapped chocolate. I ate the other chocolate which had roasted pitachios, think the chocolate is from brussels, but ya can maybe find it around at some world market store here.

Well, I tried to watch Moonlight Mile last night, but it looks like my DVD is a little f-ed up, so I started "watching" an auction for it omn E-bay. I really didn't feel up to going to the movies and ending up watching the first two episodes of Six Feet Under season 4. The first episodes being one of my favorites.

Smokie, I watched MOONLIGHT MILE twice but it doesn't seem to go just the right way. Plus, Susan Sarandon and Dustin Hoffman don't appear very much in it and Gyllenhaal wasn't yet that big actor at that time. My overall look at this film makes me say it looks a bit vague and confused. Erwin, which of those two great films by Bunuel did you like the most? I go for the first one, I like it more because it's so unique and experimental. While in Cet Obscure Object Du desir the only inventive is the changing actress for the role of Conchita. Anyway, I just re-watched it three days ago. Quite weird coincidence. Does Angela Molina appear like Penelope Cruz to anybody else except me?

Rebs- I ordered a replacement Amadeus. (Damn, Netflix anyway.) I am telling myself the best things come to those who wait, and not making plans to go to TX or AZ to see IE on the big screen. I'm sure it will be worth it, ho hum. Pan's Labyrinth: Surreal and visually stimulating Spanish adult fantasy/historical war movie. You decide. Notes on a Scandal: Horny female teachers are victims, and old lesbians are creepy. You decide.

What is it with Netflix/Blockbuster Online and cracked disks? Everytime I get one that I can see has been glued together, I know that I'll never be able to see the end of the disk. I wonder why they don't use more secure packaging.

Yes, the idea was born out of necessity, but later it became a symbolic thing. I just saw Inland Empire too and I'm just feeling a little weird now. But I pretty much have an idea of what the movie is all about. Anyway, it surely was a totally new experience (with wonderful and terrible moments).
