Obama's running mate - a woman governor of a state that traditionally goes to Republicans in general elections? Sounds like the smart move to me. P.S. This is not jinxing! I am still sh*% scared that Clinton may eke out the nomination. But Maine seemed like a good sign. P.P.S. Political junkies are all a-twitter about the fact that Clinton had an 'under-the-radar' meeting with John Edwards. The initially proposed idea that Obama also would have a meeting with Edwards today, seems to have been 'cancelled'. Or perhaps rescheduled. An Edwards endorsement for Clinton would be an event of some magnitude, and though I officially withhold from speculating....I'm a little bit worried. John Edwards working the campaign trail for Obama in Ohio and Pennsylvania would, on the other hand, be super-duper.

I too am s*** scared Hillary will still get the nomination Hero. Edwards could equal a " monkey wrench" to not coin a phrase.

I honestly doubt that John Edwards is going to pull any votes by his endorsement. Don't forget, he couldn't carry his own state in the presidential race as VP or as a presidential candidate in a primary. He's just not all that persuasive. In fact, I've often wondered how he wowed those jurors in his trial lawyer days. Wish I could see some of those on Court TV re-runs or something. He seems so... un-Johnny Cochran. Susan

*YAWN* ...tell me this isn't STILL going?!??!? Ok, so I'm liking Obama more as the campaign progresses. My first choice would be Huckleberry...but he's looks like a no-chance. Obama gets interest because he looks like he genuinely could be different, rather than more of the same from many other Dem and Rep candidates. Curiosity value could be one of his best assets.

Yep, still, Cyba! Expect more of the same through all of 2008 though there will be a shift of Dem v. Rep once the Hillary-Obama compet is sorted out. Inauguration Day - January 20, 2009 - and then we'll have a bit of respite until the midterm election cycle of 2010 kicks in. The story has it's ups and downs but overall, the Obama factor is what most interests me at this point. Susan

Another Obama win! This is an Obama-nation! With each sucessive win, Hillary is looking older, duller and so very 20th century. Susan

I've never seen Hillary's hips look so slim! Falling is good for her.

Interesting "debate" tonight. I keep wondering how things go in the way-beyond Lincoln-Douglas days. Way beyond JFK-Nixon too. The TV pundits seem to think Hillary's low point was the "xerox" comment when she was booed. Her high point was her final wrap-up. Well, anyway, you had to be there. At this point it's a little unseemly. Kinda like gawking at a car crash. Surrender, Hillary. There's probably stacks of work left to be done on your senatorial desk. Susan

Well, I have a feeling that the Hillary camp just sunk their last chance of possibly winning on Tuesday with their Obama-dressed-up-stunt/smear. Clinton just gave America more of what it can't stand, and anyone still on the fence (those few) will probably fall on the Obama side. gonna be a very long night for Hillary (tonight due to the debate) and next Tuesday night when more states vote.

Hillary's worst moment: Why do I always get the first question??? This is like Saturday Night Live. Does Senator Obama want another cushion? Whoa! That's vaguely reminiscent.
Vast Media Conspiracy.
Embarrassing.
It is so over. Why is it that Democrats are the only ones who are "fighters" and who will "fight for you?" Good debate! Susan

Senator Clinton: Why do I always get the first question??? This is like Saturday Night Live. Does Senator Obama want another cushion? You mean you don't think that the voters saw that and thought to themselves, 'How very presidential that was. Here's a candidate who can truly restore our credibility across the world!' ? Er.....another piss-poor moment in a truly piss-poor campaign. Was it better or worse than trying to parse the difference between 'reject' and 'denounce', which also felt slightly reminiscent of one of the greatest hits of the previous Clinton administration, i.e. 'It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is.' ? Inshallah and the creek don't rise, this will be over on March 5th.

Obviously, i didn't watch the debate but did hear about her first comment and found it absurd and pathetic. So very presidential. This is an interesting poll result.

Hmm, news on Obama in Canada tonight, wonder if it will make the US news (and if it's true). Apparently an Obama staffer contacted the Canadian ambassador to say there would be lot's of NAFTA talk during the campaign but "don't worry, it's just rhetoric". Update, it looks like Hillary has done the same thing (again, if this is legit). http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080227/dems_nafta_080227/20080227?hub=TopStories

that sounds like something any campaign would do (esp with the US economy slowing down). It'll be difficult to pull out of NAFTA at this point without causing all sorts of economic issues for all 3 countries. It would first have to be a phased pull out, and would only be certain industries.

I take no joy or sorrow in either Dem candidates eventual loss. I have no hatred towards Hillary, Obama or McCain so it's looking like a win or win or win this November.

Tomorrow is the day. Polls are indicating a dead heat in both states! Of course, we've seen this before in other states. It's all going to be about turnout. (or a lawsuit, as the Hillary campaign has threatened in TX)

Prediction: Rhode Island: Clinton by 10% Vermont: Obama by 20% Ohio: Clinton by 8% Texas: Obama by 1% Post-Texas caucus, Obama gains a tiny amount more pledged delegates on the day, but... Clinton spins story favourably, media in general follow that narrative, and we enter into DNC armageddon territory. Bill Richardson endorses Obama. Public grow weary over race not being decided, enthusiasm amongst Obamaniacs wanes. Hillary grits her teeth and fights to the bloody end. Hope I'm wrong. (about the armageddon scenario, which includes nasty and brutal wrangle over MI and FL delegates).

I tend to agree with your analysis there. I think MI and FL are going to come back into the picture also. If so both will probably require revoting, and Obama will have to be added to the MI ballot. Do disagree with the OH percentage. Don't think Hillary will win by 8 points. I'm thinking more like 3 or 4%. TX will be within a point or 2 - and wouldn't be surprised if we hear of a recount (in possibly both states). This all depends upon whether or not Hillary cries today. :) I tend to think that we will see a Democratic Argmageddon though. Should make for a very fun summer! Everyone's already tired of this election - it's going to be even worse in the mid-summer. The problem that Hillary has is the fact that it's been impossible to really attack Obama. If her biggest complaint/slam is plagirism they are in trouble. And that's parly (but not all) because Obama is black. If you attack too harsh you could very well alienate AFrican-American voters who are moving to Obama. The Democrats need that bloc of voters (just like the GOP needs Conservatives). This puts Clinton between a rock and a hard place -- attack your opponent while at the same time, not destroy him so you don't alienate his supporters (which she will need in Nov). If she attacks too harshly, then she very well could drive people away from the polls, or worse, to Nader!

I'm not tired of the election, Jordan. I am pretty bored with the McCain-Huckabee tussle but the Clinton-Obama battle is a lot of fun! Looking forward to tomorrow night. I heard someone say that the Texas primary/caucus is so complicated it makes grown men cry. So, that being the case, I suppose a blow-out would be necessary to avoid a prolonged announcement of the winner and the division of delegates.
The news this morning on all three cable news networks has had the Chicago "slumlord" Rezko going to trial today. Will the linking of Obama and Rezko have any traction with Texas or Ohio voters? Doubtful. Hillary brought it up again in the last debate but I liked Obama's retort saying he was surprised that Hillary would bring up questionable real estate deals. Or am I confusing reality with Saturday Night Live? I think it was real. There's been a bounce-back between the actual debates and the satirical debates with each referencing the other. It does get confusing. Anyone see the real Hillary Clinton on SNL this past week? Pretty funny.
I'm listening to her voice right now. She has disciplined herself as much as she could to maintain a more modulated tone but whenever she lapses into the shrill -- that has been described as the "voice of every divorced man's ex-wife" -- I dread the prospect of listening to that for four years. It's going to hard enough to take for 40 more hours or however long it takes for her to make a graceful exit. Susan

oh, I know you're not bored, Susan. Neither am I. This is too much fun, actually. McCain and Huckabee - who are they? Aren't the only two people running are Obama and Clinton? Yeah, it's a complex mess down in TX. That's all I know about it. I don't know if it's always been this way or just recently? ITs' never been this close at this point in the game so it's never been an issue. Hillary threatening to sue is just absurd (or Obama if it comes down to it) - she knew the rules going in and shouldn't be complaining about them now (just like FL and MI). I really don't see Clinton gracefully exiting. If she is still behind, Howard Dean is going to be forced to grab Hillary off-stage at some point. The longer she stays on the more fun it will be, but the sooner she steps back, the sooner I get my free steak dinner!

Way back at the start of this campaign, I was enthusing to my smartass lawyer housemate about Obama as a potential president and he rolled out a cliche in his typical condescending tone - 'There's 3 things certain in life - death, taxation and there will never be a black man in the White House'. Come on America, prove the know-it-alls wrong! The pleasure it would give me returning to that conversation...
