McCain's next stop: "Are you smarter than a 5th grader"?
It'll be interesting if he can win over the unhappy Hillary supporters or will his VP selection just upset the far right even more?
Yep, Sit back, crack a beer and watch the fur fly baby!!!!!

Sarah Palin.
Yep. That's what I woke up to this morning.
I'm disgusted.

Actually he could have gone one step further and chosen Linda Lingle of Hawai'i, She is a Republican and she's Jewish, which would REALLY rankle the Dems! I remember when Linda was a Maui County Council member from Moloka'i, then she became Mayor of Maui County, and is in her second term as Governor, and all this in a man-centric hard Democratic State! C'mon, McCain-ya blew it! Ya could have been a contender!!! Stella!!!!

Problems- 1. Alaska has three electoral votes, and they almost always go Republican anyway. Michigan (Romney), Minnesota (Pawlenty) and Pennsylvania (Ridge) are so much more important to this election.
2. The inexperience argument is lost. She's 44 years old and has been governor for less than two years. She was the mayor of a town of less than 10,000 people (makes Mayor Milford look "big time").
3. The average Hillary Clinton voter was an older woman and a life-long Democrat. It seems unlikely that these voters will suddenly defect.

My feeling is that they're not really trying to win the Hillbots over, since the best way to push them back to Obama is to bring on board a seriously pro-life woman. They want to get the evangelicals to come out and vote instead of staying home.

Because I don't like the idea of a woman president of the US or because you guessed I would be disgruntled as a postal worker? Well, the tables are turning for me again. I was gearing up to vote for McCain albeit with reluctance. VP Giuliani may have firmed up my vote IF he would have even wanted the gig. Even Romney. Newt. Even a lesser known. But now... Now I find myself for the first time in the netherworld of the UNDECIDEDS.
House husband or not, I cannot understand how a mother of any small child can take on such a position. Then throwing up the specter of the endless and unresolvable abortion issue with this woman's candidacy, makes me groan. More than anything else I'm questioning the judgment of a 72-year old wannabe POTUS who would deem that woman the most apt running mate out of the entire Republican pool. I'm right back where I was when McCain was pushing his TV-Movie censorship program. McCain should remain a senator. He is not a commander in chief type. Susan

Well, as an understudy this gal should study foreign policy -the only real knock on her. She does have some executive experience and Obama has none. He has spent most of his freshman Senate term on the campaign trail ! Obama is way deficient on foreign affairs also and he is up for president from 'day one'. Of course luckily Obama knows already that Iran is a tiny country that poses no threat !! Tell that to Isreal, Saudi Arabia, Dubai and soon Southern Europe. Likely in range of nuclear missiles. The abortion issue is a non starter because face it Roe v. Wade is not gonna be changed.

Here's the full set of comments, Jamie. Or this from a different perspective. Personally, Raymond, having executive experience for two years in a state with a population of a half million -- if you even want to consider Alaska a state -- is not so impressive to me. She did receive 909 votes as the mayor of Wasilla following her executive experience in the PTA so that too counts for something I suppose. But it is not Sarah Palin I fault for any of her curriculum vitae to date so much as it is John McCain who has once again made a rash decision. Judgement? Not a good one in my opinion. Who among us would have voted for this woman if she had been running against Rudy, Romney, McCain, Gingrich, or Huckabee in the last primary. Maybe over Ron Paul but still. I'd be jumping ship if she and Paul were the top Republican choices for POTUS. I think I'm on the life boat already. Susan

Hmm yes...the biggest state in... the union of states comprising...the country. Huge job governing that behemoth. Big job without question. A soccer mom president. Beautiful concept for America. Let's get the women into government and stop dismissing them. The women would have 'higher' experience if not overlooked. ;

Palin is a hottie.

Yikes, that Booth fellows checks out this thread. The thread is contiguous to him / Anyway, let me say something on the Soviet Union and even Peoples Republic of China verses Iran. I did the "duck and cover bit as an early gradeschool kid. Fallout Shelters around. Even Breshnev and Krushchev were rational despots. Very Important. Even that Mao guy was rational-wanting and expanding power and do it smash mouth. They were rational. Iran could be controlled by irrational leadership-ready for the 12th Imam. So forget mutually assured destruction and common sense with Iran. I put forth that Iran is more dangerous because they don't give a sh--.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Sarah and Todd Palin say their 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant. The couple said in a statement released by John McCain's presidential campaign that Bristol will keep her baby. Sarah Palin is McCain's vice-presidential running mate. The Alaska governor says Bristol intends to marry the father of her child. She and the campaign also are asking that the media respect the family's privacy on this matter. --The Associated Press My first thought: "what, again?" My second, re: "She and the campaign also are asking that the media respect the family's privacy on this matter.", was gales of laughter.

This poor poor kid! Under the world's microscope, she is now forced to be a teenager mother, generally a one way ticket to poverty. But being coerced into marrying the father!? Will his parents go along with this folly? Cruel, cruel, cruel. Wonder if this scenario was her first choice when she got the results of her home pregnancy test. Argh, again. Argh. Susan
