Match your ideals with a candidate

If I was a voting American i'd be voting for Bill Richardson apparently. Never heard of him so I don't think i'd like my vote to be wasted backing a loser. Obama was 2nd match so obama all the way!

not a surprise - Mitt Romney. I knew it would either be Romney or Huckabee. 2 was Huckabee and 3 was Tancredo (who has no chance).

CybacaT sez: Obama who is a great cheerleader, but doesn't seem to actually say ANYTHING!!  It's just hot air without substance.

I'm an Obama-lover, to the point where I'm even considering finding out how to cast my ballot from overseas, something which always seemed totally pointless and a huge pain in the arse to me.  Anyway, I can understand why those new to this guy who mostly see 10-second clips, or 30 second TV ads, or concession or victory speeches might think what you're thinking.  I get it.  And it irritates me because when I hear all the 'hype' accusations, I want to point out that like Susan (err...actually because of Susan if I'm honest) I've been with this guy for months and months now.  His book blew me away. All of his policy ideas are in there - though I understand that not everybody is going to go out and read a whole book on a candidate to find out that the substance is there.  But the substance IS there, mate.  In fact......it's actually there more so than most candidates.

That isn't why I'm supporting him though.  His policies, which I would support roughly 2/3 of without qualification I guess, mark him out as a normal left-leaning but also somewhat centrist Democrat.  As you must have heard a million times by now, it is his STRONG appeal to our better natures that distinguishes him.

Oh, I forgot the reason I came here!  To say that rumour has it that Kerry is endorsing Obama.

Campaigns aren't about substance. Grand ideas and big picture is. It's when they are in the Presidency in which substance truly matters.  I've not read Obama's book but I took a glance at it and read portions and there is substance there.

the reality is simple - if America wants more gridlock and partisanship, they will elect Hillary and we'll have another 8 years of what we've seen for the past 16.

Fresh face and a fresh voice that has big ideas can and should excite people. And sometimes that is exactly what a nation needs. Reagan was that voice in many ways in the 80s (even if you disagree with his politics). And honestly, this GOP-leaning person only sees it from one person - Obama. I sure don't see it on the GOP side right now.

I wasn't real happy with the questions.  It came up with Romney for me, followed by Brownback (???) and Huckabee.

3. McCain (at which point I thought they were onto something)

2. Mitt Romney (I don't think so)

1.  Huckabee!

There were not a lot of questions and not a lot of answers that matched by real preference so I am suspicious too!  I get:

3) Kucinich

2) Obama

1) Mike Gravel?

Who the heck is Mike Gravel?

Racial tensions roil Democratic race ....

....“A cross-section of voters are alarmed at the tenor of some of these statements,” said Obama spokeswoman Candice Tolliver, who said that Clinton would have to decide whether she owed anyone an apology....

Thanks for the heads-up on Obama.  While I have followed his story since his first appearance on Oprah, it's never been in any depth.  My lack of details on his policies is probably a reflection on the Aussie media and my disenchantment with the whole process.

If I was voting Dem, it'd be Obama, just based upon what I know about the 2 leading candidates.  But I don't think I'd be voting Dem...   ;-)

Mike works with Fred Flintstone  down at Mr. Slate's company. Union organizer, workingperson's friend...  I got a question: what's up with this "Hilldog" nickname?  Is someone tryin' to make her more "gangsta friendly" or is this some Limbaugh shtick ("How low can you go? Try quoting Rush! OOOH, rockbottom!!!")? Is it fair game to have a canine term directed towards  the sole female in the race? Why not some potentially offensive pseudonyms for ALL the candidates? Ba-lack Yo-mama? Eye Heart? The Scarecrow (a bit obscure, I guess, referring to Patrick McGoohan's character from Romney Marsh)?  Or did Clinton herself come up with this title?  I'd hate to inaccurately level charges of sexism, so I'll just request equal time for all involved...  I'm not a big Hillary supporter, but I do live in a state (Wa.) who elected both a  woman  senator (Cantwell) & governor (Gregoire).

Bill gets called the Big Dog a lot, and Hill-Dog in an extension of that.  I'm hung over, so I have no joke to append.

(Wo)Man, oh, (wo)man, Chris!  I live in a state with a man governor and two women senators.  Who the f*** cares?  Seriously, is that not a tad patronizing?  Have you done a body count of your state's African-American elected politicians as well?

Amanda referenced this before and I'll bring it up again.  What kind of lame self-congratulatory process is at play here to give a gender count of your state's elected officials.

Hell, maybe it's just a trivia thing, huh?

How many politicians under 5' 4" are in Washington?

How many transgenders?

How do we move past Identity Politics when we're doing these counts?

Now admit it, you're leaning toward Obama like everyone else.

Susan

PS  ...then again, as I recall, there was a certain level of distrust about the "election" of that WA senator...

Just stating facts, Susan. Yes, there were several senatorial recounts (it was close).  Basically I was just wondering why it was seemingly okay to hang a derogatory nickname on the only female candidate and no nickname for anyone else.  And I'm actually an Edwards supporter, but would favor Obama over Clinton.

You kids & your cartoonies!  I don't watch Park South too much, ya see...  THAT'S what I was looking for: a bit of clarification. I still think all the "dudes" should have silly names too. Okay Stone/Park, let's get crackin'!!!

Not going to vote in the primaries, because my party doesn't have it's act together.

Like Susan said, screw identity politics.

And screw partisan politics, too, by the way. Screw circus media and the consumer tv viewers who base their opinions on biased reporting and sensationalism. They aren't reporters, they're entertainers, and the print journalists aren't much more innocent.
I'm finding www.ontheissues.org/default.htm to be very helpful.

My views are moderate, but I have to agree more with Huckabee this year than anyone else.
