Schlussel is wrong-it should also be freedom from religion-no question. As you say that is a side point. I believe the key question is does the video exist- I didn't see absolute proof of that in the thread. And if the LAT did have such a video-was it destroyed. Also key here: Did the party occur and are the quotes disclosed true? That is key. That should be capable of being proved.I doubt they are made up IMO. If made up they would be disputed by now. If the quotes are valid the video is just extra information.

Now Booth come on, are you an inventor or an all nite partyer ; ).

I think I am beginning to see a potential October Surprise appear for Obama. Might find some quote or comment by Obama that could hurt him a tad. Just this weekend, Drudge has posted a few links to things that Obama has said, including one that discusses a Constitutional flaw (not sure of the context).

One of the more interesting, and I have no idea of the context in which Obama made it, is back when he was a law student. According to the NY Times, the AP quoted him as saying:

"I'm not interested in the suburbs. The suburbs bore me."

Again, I have NO idea of the context here, but I can already hear the spin on this one. GOP picks it up as Obama doesn't care about "the middle working class." Mix that in with the other comments about distributing wealth to Joe the Plumber, and this new quote on a radio interview about Civil Rights, the Courts, and distribution of wealth, and a solid picture starts to be created that the GOP will be able to use in possibly convincing that final 10% of indepedent on the fence voters.

Throw in Obama's "Constitution is flaw" quote and it makes for some interesting ads and talking points - contextually correct or not withstanding.

So that leaves me thinking - how many other "quotes" are we going to see this week that might persuade some to question Obama.

I actually think the Republicans have known for a long time that this was an unwinnable election. They just threw McCain out there for a laugh, to get him back for his criticism of the Bush admin.

Ya know , I was just thinking back to this thread. Back a year ago when the 2 nominees were unbeknownst to us all. ( unbeknownst- I heard that one on Celebrity Rehab-which is back again.) Anyway. i know i questioned if the Hanoi Hilton experience could be a negative for McCain and yes I made fun of Alaska as being kinda remote.. I also was optimistic when O was early on. BUt O is not John Kennedy, or Harry Truman. Hey I don't go for this Apprentice media enabled campaign. I've known some real problem people in my life but Sen. Obama? You make the degenerates I've known seem not that bad. And I ain't running for Pres. John M I appologize to your funny and maybe on occasion cranky senior self- It's McCain Palin for me.

I see Social Security is now out there in single digits- that's years to go ,not payment amount ah, it's on deck for me. Keep paying in my younger friends ---I have.

Sara-maybe meet some more leaders and stuff. Be ready baby.

Hey, McCain himself was quoted as saying "I'm so bored with the U.S.A. But what can I do?!", then pogoed off, bellowing "White riot! I wanna riot! White riot, a riot of my own!"  Of course this was 1978 & he was going through his Clash phase (even he knew that they were indeed "the only band that mattered").  Word has it that he's taking great solace in their "new" Shea Stadium live album & giant pink book.  Guess he & McPalin oughta crank up Rock the Casbah on Tuesday & mosh out the concession blues...

Hi Raymond,

How have you been? I feel your pain with the current stock market and economic recession. Here is hoping for a turnaround no matter who wins the election.

I've been thinking back as well. Thinking back as to why I used to like John McCain but I no longer support the republican party. This may sound wrong, but I've supported republicans back in the day when they were mean old rich white men who looked out for my money and the fiscal health of the country. Before they began to pander to the religious right, became completely self righteous, and funded out of control spending. Lets be honest, mean old rich white men who only care about money are NOT Christians nor do I want them to be. In fact can a true Christian in any good conscious really be a politician at all? I guess that's for another discussion I want the guys back who keep government out of my personal life. I certainly don't care who they try and pickup in the men's bathroom at airports as long as they vote for lower taxes AND reduced spending to make a balanced budget like we had in the 90's. (Newt and company in congress and Clinton as pres) My point is I hope the republicans redefine themselves after this election and get back to the core values they once stood for, only then can they earn my vote back.

I think John McCain sold his soul for a last ditch effort to win this election. Sarah Palin is the worst possible pick for a moderate democrat like myself. She is quite scary and I am honestly quite embarrassed by her. I am quite certain the real John McCain really had little choice in the matter, the party basically made him nominate her to satisfy the religious right.

I'll be casting my vote for Obama on Tuesday as I really think he has the charisma and leadership skills to move the country forward and heal some wounds from the last 15 years or so. Just my opinion and I think he will be more fiscally conservative then the right wing propaganda machine would lead us to believe. I also don't think he will make the government any more socialist than it already is and will continue to become no matter who wins. Our over bloated government is socialist no matter who is in office, the "distributed wealth" just gets shuffled around to different areas and special interests depending on who is in office. O may not be a JFK or Harry Truman, but I wasn't even alive to experience their leadership or live through those times. I think O is the closest I am going to see to that in my lifetime as I am not happy with the direction the country is going.

Well, good luck on Tuesday. I have a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc for an Obama win and a bottle of Jack Daniels for a McCain win. Either way........

Anyone willing to start throwing out their election predictions? But instead of "Obama will win", let's get detailed - percentages, states, electoral college, etc. As detailed as you can get. I'll try and throw something together this weekend like I did four years ago (I think I did state by state).

All predictions are due by midnight Monday. :-)

And you don't win anything other than the title of "TPG's 2008 Presidential Election Predictor Expert"

R_Flagg: "Just my opinion and I think he will be more fiscally conservative then the right wing propaganda machine would lead us to believe. I also don't think he will make the government any more socialist than it already is..."

hope you're right. :-)

Hello R Flagg

You made some valid points that I agree with. I don't remember Harry Truman either : )

A moderate Dem I could live with-I actually have given props to Bill Clinton's administration on here -for his welfare reform and capital gains reduction- other areas not so much : ). But to me the most liberal rated senator from the skevvy radical Chicago machine combined with Pelosi and Reid and a super majority in congress may lead to nightmare levels of social engineering programs. (And I have criticized Bush here on spending.) I fear a tax approach that can kill business that creates jobs. That's just a quick response for now. Bigger intrusive government on the way.

Does not a party for the Isreali hating guy with Bernadine Dohrn, Ayers, and O a couple years ago give pause at least? Also the media love affair with O and the fact that the 4th (5th?) estate has become an activist outfit and not unbiased news entities is dangerous for the country. Could not the LAT have paid the source handsomely and kept the source unknown and shown the video of the going away party? That must be some video.

With respect, hope all is going well for you. The economy and stock market are no problem for me I'm still 80% cash- down only 17% on my stock portfolio. I am concerned for others however. Like Tito Munoz a guy I dig.

Enjoy !!

Raymond

I see O has kicked The NY POST, WASHINGTON TIMES and DALLAS MORNING NEWS off his plane-they endorsed McCain- to make room for party bigwigs? If this is true it adds to the media control problem i see with this campaign. Media control sounds kinda like the old days and the one party soviets. just my take, perhaps hyperbolic : ). More room for the new york times? Interesting days.

Economist backs Obama

The Financial Times came out in support of Obama this week too. Two eminient newspapers of the right.

I don't think this would happen if Mr O's policies were as 'socialist'  as the Republicans would have you believe. If this election is not a blue landslide then the insulting way in which the Republican PR machine pitches to their target audience of dullards will have been somewhat of a success ;-)

So I guess it's tit for tat ? Make that two tits for three tats.

Plenty of room for Maureen the columnist and her 'girls' now.

Regarding the world economy, a nice rate cut by Europe would IMO be the last step in fixing up the economy. In fact it would trump any result in Tuesday's election over here. More effective than either O or M winning. I think Milton Freidman would agree do you B ?

Now the US should not increase cap gains taxes. In every case since JFK cutting cap gains has increased tax revenues ergo reducing the deficit. Please scuttle that idea Barrack, Nancy and Harry . If they don't there may not be any gains to tax anyway ; )

It doesn't sound like a resounding support for Obama though. From The Economist: "The Economist does not have a vote, but if it did, it would cast it for Mr Obama. We do so wholeheartedly: the Democratic candidate has clearly shown that he offers the better chance of restoring America’s self-confidence. But we acknowledge it is a gamble. Given Mr Obama’s inexperience, the lack of clarity about some of his beliefs and the prospect of a stridently Democratic Congress, voting for him is a risk. Yet it is one America should take, given the steep road ahead."

And then the conclusion: "So Mr Obama in that respect is a gamble. But the same goes for Mr McCain on at least as many counts, not least the possibility of President Palin. And this cannot be another election where the choice is based merely on fear. In terms of painting a brighter future for America and the world, Mr Obama has produced the more compelling and detailed portrait. He has campaigned with more style, intelligence and discipline than his opponent. Whether he can fulfil his immense potential remains to be seen. But Mr Obama deserves the presidency."

We should have a Twin Peaks Gazette Presidential Election and see who wins.

That way I can figure out which ones of you I like and don't like.
